How To Survive As A Student – Basic Food Recipes

We all know how it is when you’re in college and it reaches that time of the semester when you’re low on money but you still have to eat. It sucks doesn’t it? Well here’s the good news, you don’t have to have a lot to eat well. There are many delicious things you can make on a budget that’ll leave your taste buds buzzing. I know you’re wondering what these foods are I talk of so let me share a few with you.

For the purpose of this survival guide, ill divide into 2 categories: breakfast, lunch/dinner. Here we go.

Breakfast

The good thing about breakfast is, it’s the cheapest meal of the day and you can do well on a budget and still have enough to get you through till your next meal. Some of the best things you can get for breakfast are:

1. Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich.

This is pretty much the easiest thing to make. All you need is sliced bread, peanut butter and, you guessed it, jelly. All you need is a minute and you can have a PB&J ready. A classic, tasty and cheap option when you’re on a budget.

2. Waffles or Pancakes

You can make them yourself or get them at a shop. These can be a longtime option because you can throw them in the freezer and heat the up in a microwave or toaster for breakfast or when you need a snack. They don’t take much to make or buy and once done, you don’t have to worry about spending on breakfast, at least for a couple days.

Lunch/Dinner

1) Taco Salad

One of the simplest salads and tasty salads to make is the taco salad. Anyone who has had this salad, especially with the right dressing will tell you it is one of their favorite types of salad.
What you need to make a taco salad:

  • shredded romaine lettuce
  • crushed up tortilla chips
  • drained and rinsed black beans
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Avocado
  • Tomatoes, preferably cherry

How to make the taco salad

Put all the ingredients in a large bowl. Mix with a spoon or whatever and drizzle some salad dressing. I personally prefer Catalina. Your salad is ready.

2) Whole-Grain Spaghetti with Kale and Tomatoes

When it comes to eating a delicious healthy meal this one is one of my favorites. It is filled with healthy ingredients like kales, tomatoes and almonds. What you need to make this meal

  • Whole-grain Spaghetti
  • Chopped garlic
  • Black pepper
  • Salt
  • Grape tomatoes
  • Roasted almonds
  • Olive oil
  • Thinly slice red onion
  • Kales

Preparation:

Cook the pasta in a pot as how it says on the package instructions. Drain the pot but save some water in a cup. You’ll use it later.

Add the onion, garlic, and pepper, salt to heating oil in a pan. Stir for about 5 minutes.

After that, add the kale and let it cook for about 3 minutes

Then add the tomatoes and cook for about 2 minutes

Add the mixture to the pot with the pasta along with the water you had saved before. Stir or toss to combine

Your meal is ready to be served. Enjoy.
